How You Can Save on Children's Books

By Clarice Williams

One of the best ways to learn and have fun is to read books. I love books myself, and I highly encourage my kids to read books as a way of learning and entertainment. The only problem I have with books is that they can be quite expensive, especially when kids start growing up and they want new materials to read all the time.

I always believed that learning shouldn't be expensive which is why I'd be sharing some tips on how parents can save on children's books:

Garage sales. Garage sales are wonderful ways to buy books inexpensively. The great thing with books is that they don't have to be brand new for kids to enjoy them. As long as the pages are intact, I'm sure your child would love reading them. Just make sure to arrive early on garage sales to get the best selections.

Look for used bookstores. Locate used bookstores (try Google places) in your community and pay them a visit. There are even some stores who gives credits for books you bring in so you don't have to pay for the books you want to bring home.

Gifts. Don't be afraid to let family and friends know that books are your children's preferred gifts. Go online with your child or visit bookstores and make a list of books that they'd like to receive as gifts. Make these lists available when people ask you for the titles.

Arrange book swaps. Organizing a book swap is a great way to save on books. Invite friends or family over and have them bring as much books as they want. I arranged a book swap with my neighborhood recently and it was really fun!

Check online. There are sites on the internet allowing you to get rid of old books and get new ones at the same time. I saw this site, for instance, which allows you to order books from members for free and you only pay for the shipping when you send out books.
