Selecting The Best Cutting Board For Your Kitchen

By Cindy Travis

The main idea behind the introduction of cutting boards in the kitchen is to simplify the work of cutting and chopping foods since it gives you a hard surface to work on as opposed to using the table tops.

Another reason is that all those fantastic counter tops that make your kitchen look beautiful must be protected from damage during the cutting process of foodstuff. When you form the habit of using cutting boards, the kitchen counters will remain clean, germ-free and beautiful.

Many home owners will be forced to replace their already disfigured kitchen counters prematurely. This is as a result of allowing people to use their hitherto beautiful kitchen counter tops for cutting foods instead of protecting it by using the cutting boards all the time.

This form of renovation is really not very affordable and should simply be avoided by introducing the use of cutting boards in your kitchen. Just choose between the plastic and wooden ones.

The majority of top chefs will tell you that they work with wooden boards. These are good as long as the required maintenance is strictly adhered to, but it is you to choose.

The wooden boards have the tendency to warp and split if not maintained properly, which means the plastic one would be better in this case and can help you to do the cutting job very well. What one should not think about at all as a chopping board is glass, for it is very brittle.

What one should also look for in a cutting board is the fact that the counters must be protected as well as the knives. You see, a very hard surface is likely to blunt the knives and render them useless in the job of cutting, slicing and dicing foods.

As long as the cutting boards are disinfected properly with natural bleach that is very commonly found in every home - vinegar. Just mix vinegar and water to make a disinfectant that is suitable for all the kitchen surfaces including the counters.
