Wood play kitchens have been part family life since the start of the family unit. Children have always attempted to imitate the work of adults in their childish play. In that childish play they safely play around with roles, skills and tools that may permit them to function entirely when they come to adultness.
As children spend almost all of their time in or near the family residence, they spend more time being exposed to the activities of daily living such as cooking and cleaning than to the actions of paid work.
