Great Baby Trivia

By Silva Carvalho

Kids get bigger faster than anybody realizes. In the beginning an infant is a single celled organism and within a very short time it is a living being with a heart, lungs and a brain. That tiny ball of cells only needs forty weeks to grow and form a human being capable of living on its own. Even after birth the changes happen quickly-personalities and decision making seem to happen almost at once. You probably already know a little bit about babies-things like diaper changes and how long it takes babies to begin speaking are pretty common knowledge. Here are some facts about babies and childhood development that you might not know.

Babies are never dull! At least half the things you thought you knew about babies might not even be true at all! Here are some interesting facts about infant development.

Did you realize that some people give birth to babies who already have teeth? On the other hand, other babies don't even start teething until they are more than a year old.

Babies are able to recognize music while they are still in the womb. As early as six weeks before birth, infants can recognize songs. That means that this happens more than a month before the baby is born! It has been reported that some babies will even start moving in time to a song's rhythm. This could mean that a person's musical taste is instinctual instead of conditioned. Doesn't that astound you?

Did you know that when babies grow tails? It is absolutely true! During the first few weeks after conception babies grow tails along with their brains, hearts and lungs.

Eventually the tail will disappear because the rest of the baby's body will grow and mature-the tail sort of gets absorbed into it. This is not that different from the way a tadpole grows to be a frog. Some people, however, have tails that do not completely disappear and they are born with them still somewhat intact. From here the parents can choose whether to have the tail removed or to hope that it disappears over time.
