As all parents know, parenting can be extremely challenging, and this is particularly true if you're a young parent. The experience can be very stressful, but usually you manage to get through it and years from now you'll wonder why you made such a big deal out of it. Unfortunately, the actions of parents can be so damaging that there are no fond reminiscing with grown children.

Children that are raised in an environment that is structured often fare much better in life than those that do not. Of course they have no idea what structure is, but you can help them to understand what they can and cannot do. The structure of their lives is simply the boundaries that you supply. Toddlers are at an age where they are continuously testing not only the environment around them but also you. Be prepared to act and react on a regular basis as your child tests your boundaries and constraints. This testing will go on for several months, if not years, which is something you should expect and learn to deal with. The structure that you provide will ensure that they grow up in a balanced and uniform manner because of your love and direction.
It's always best to create firm and consistent boundaries that your children know they have to stay within. The main benefit of this is that it allows children to know where they stand without any confusion. You don't have to be heavy-handed when you explain these boundaries; just be clear and firm about it. Children will always test any limits you set up, so be prepared for this to happen. Don't let such transgressions upset you too much, as every parent must deal with them. Your children have to realize that these are firm principles they must follow, so you have to be vigilant about enforcing them.

Finally, you should always pay attention to what is going on in the lives of your children if you really care. If you do not see your kids as much is used to, this might be a sign that something is going on that you might not approve of. Understanding if something is wrong begins with not only seeing your kids regularly, but talking to them too. Always be aware of unusual behaviors that they might have which might mean that something is wrong. Parents that do not pay attention are often the ones that find out too late that something is wrong with their kids. With patience and love, make sure that you help your teenager in case they start getting out of line and help them back to balance once again.

One of the worst parenting mistakes you can make is to allow children to break the rules you've established without suffering any consequences. In other words, there has to be consistency between what you tell your kids about consequences and what you actually do when they break the rules. You'll never be able to discipline your child effectively if all he or she has to do is cry or plead to get you to change your mind. Your children will quickly catch on and realize that they don't have to follow your rules if they know what buttons to press. However, if you stick to your guns and sta

However, if you stick to your guns and stand your ground, then in time they will come to respect that. They may not like it, but you will be teaching them a very positive lesson regarding rules and consequences. Ideally, you want to begin your journey as a parent in a way that your child never questions your love or good intentions towards them. Consistency is one of the most important traits a parent can have, so as you find effective parenting methods, stay with them.
