Handy Tips and Tricks for Your Baby's Skin Care

By Sophia Andrew

Many people spend lots of time and money to get softer, tighter skin like they had in their earlier years. We use lotions that are enhanced with age defying ingredients. In today's world it is possible to look ten years younger and people are wiling to look it at any expense, whether it be money or time. Your baby will grow up with the type of skin that others envy and will pick up where you left off because you instilled this habit early in life. In this article you will find tips that you can put to use right away.

Your baby's bath does not need to be lengthy. In fact, keeping your newborn in the bath for too long can actually be harmful! Your baby's bath only needs to be a few minutes long--only enough time to get wet, get soapy and get rinsed. After rinsing off the baby, apply a little bit of lotion or moisturizer and then towel her dry. Dry your baby's skin completely or skin rashes or yeast infections can develop. Remember how rolly and polly a newborn baby's skin is! You want to use a soft towel to do the drying!

It is important, when purchasing baby's skin care products, that you read the labels on them carefully. You shouldn't buy products that contain added fragrances, dyes, parabens or phthalates. You avoid these things because they have all been known to contribute to infant skin conditions. After all, the last thing you want to do is accidentally cause a skin condition to develop after taking so much care to keep your baby's skin clean. You want to choose products that are known for being gentle on infant skin. If you want to be very careful, before you go shopping again, ask your pediatrician for some suggestions.

Be careful not to use too much soap--you don't need very much at all to clean your baby's skin. You can thoroughly clean your baby with just a few drops of soap. Using more than that will dry out the baby's skin and make it vulnerable to infections and other skin problems. Never directly apply soap to your baby's skin. Put the soap drops onto a washcloth and work up a lather; use the lather to clean your baby (make sure to rinse him quickly). Until you feel more comfortable with the bathing process lather up and rinse off individual parts of your baby. A slippery soapy baby can be scary to deal with!

There are all sorts of ways to practice proper baby skin care. It is important to remember that proper skin care involves more than just a regular bath. Making sure that you use the correct laundry detergent, using sunscreen and letting your baby get some "naked time" every day are all important parts of proper baby skin care. Don't worry too much eventually protecting and caring for your baby's skin will be second nature. It really will feel like a habit before too long!
