Jet Airways - Enduring Tough Times To Emerge Like The Yellow Rose

By Avendancher Guerrero Xavier

Jet Airways India is an international airline that houses it's main base in Mumbai, India. Their corporate website states they fly to 75 destinations, nationally and internationally, with "each connected every five minutes." This airline is not actually that old, in terms of other companies in the industry--they had their inaugural commercial flight in 1993.

Because of declining global economic conditions of the last decade, all commercial airlines including Jet Airways have had to take serious measures. Flight operations to Shanghai, Brussels, London and San Francisco California have been suspended by the company. There were plans to expand the service destinations when those measures were announced. While not being placed on permanent hold, all expansion ideas were suspended indefinitely. The assets of the company have had to be re-configured which included canceling orders for new aircraft, the leasing of aircraft and other necessary measures.

The airline is built from two smaller passenger carrier airlines: Jet Airways Konnect and JetLite. Jet Airways Konnect was formed to meet the demands of a very specific market in India. You will see that Konnect services seven major metropolitan areas within India and a few major cities outside of India as well.

This particular subsidiary was created specifically to cater to the market of people who have lower budget. JetLite, bought by the company in early 2007, is somewhat similar in design to Konnect although it does offer slightly higher priced accommodations. Still, it does not cater to the first class flying crowd. In addition to almost thirty domestic service locations it also serves Kathmandu. Between both subsidiaries the company has almost three hundred flights each day. When Jet Airways purchased Air Sahara, the subsidiary JetLite Airlines was formed. As an alternative to expanding Jetlite, Jet Konnect was created in May 2009. The regulations that created unacceptable delays in the transfer of aircraft to Jetlite from Jet Airways was the reason. Creating a new airline was just easier. The third quarter of 2010 was very good for the parent and JetLite companies. The combined operations cornered 26.9% of the market share of the domestic air passenger business in India. That figure as arrived at by basing the criteria on the number of passengers carried. These numbers earned the company the honor of being the market leader in domestic air passenger service in India.

The seats in the Premier Class are arranged two by two and are extra wide. Measuring 40 inches across the Premier class seats are extra wide. On top of that, there is a wide-screen LCD monitor featured at each seat. There is an Economy class offered on the Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft as well. A personal wide-screen LCD is also included in these accommodations. The Jet Airways B-737 is the first airline to have offered its passengers in-flight entertainment systems. The Premier Class offers 2 x 2 across seat configuration and the Economy Class is 3 x 3. of its original locations, however it has had to cut back some on international destinations due to the current economic climate. An announcement by the company states that it plans to resume flights to some of those cities soon.

Increasing numbers of people nowadays are taking holidays utilizing airplanes. One common location is Australia's Gold Coast. One reason that it's quite popular is there are lots of wonderful places to stay, including hotels and apartments. If you are interested, check with your local travel agent.
