How many of us wrote a santa letter when we were children? I know I would raise my hand and I would expect at least some to all of you have done it sometime during your childhood. Writing that letter is something that children look forward to every Christmas. The santa letter is a Christmas tradition that many families and schools practice to this day.
For those of you who may have not written a santa letter, let me tell you a little bit about this tradition (and this may be a reminder for those of us who have done this before). Usually sometime after Thanksgiving or during the month of December, children will start thinking about what Christmas presents they would like to get from Santa that year. An adult (whether it be a parent or teacher), will usually tell the child who asks to write a santa letter and then they will send it up to the North Pole where Santa Claus and his elves are working feverishly to make toys for Christmas. The child or children (if you are a teacher and have a class full of children who want to write a santa letter) will skip off with pencil and paper to feverishly write what booty they wish for from Santa Claus this year.
The typical santa letter is started by addressing Santa Claus. The child may decide to give Santa some compliments about how merry or nice he is as well as promises that they have been a good child that year (Santa Claus only brings presents to good children. Naughty children will receive a lump of coal, or at least that's how the story goes). The child or children will then chronicle in their santa letter what sorts of toys, games, electronics, and other booty they wish for that year. The letter is then closed with a polite ending and then the child will sign or write their name on the bottom. Most children are encouraged to give their letter to an adult who will then forward the santa letter to Santa Claus at the Santa Claus House in the North Pole.
If your child is reading this article over your shoulder about a santa letter, please shoo them away before their hopes of Santa Claus are dashed to pieces!
These adults will usually send the santa letter through the Post Office to the North Pole which is supposedly read by Father Christmas or Santa Claus himself. During the Christmas season, the post office has workers who are specifically chosen to read and sometimes respond to these letters (sadly not all the letters actually make it to Santa). Sometimes an adult or a teacher may keep the santa letter that a child gives them and respond themselves. This makes the child who has written the santa letter feel like Father Christmas knows them personally and will make sure they get what they asked for in their letter.
I have one suggestion for Santa Claus to consider that would definitely save him time and effort in answering the santa letter that he receives. Perhaps Father Christmas should invest in a laptop and set up his own email account. We will see if Santa converts to the modern age of electronic email or not...Let Your Child Write the Traditional Santa Letter This Christmas
