The Lost Akita in the Animal Rescue Shelter

By George Cowley

There are many compassionate people who also love the Akita breed of dogs but haven't yet find the good place from where to obtain such a dog. An animal rescue shelter may be the right place to find a dog you can love. Some people confuse animal rescue shelters with dog pounds, but they are really different. An animal rescue shelter won't euthanize dogs or any other animal, and this makes it different from a dog pound. Dog pounds have the job to pick up the unconstrained dogs that wonder on the streets. These dogs will be kept at the dog pound for a few days, and if the owner does not recover it or other people do not adopt the dog, it will be euthanized. As opposed to such dog pound, compassionate nonprofit organizations establish and run animal rescue shelters to save dogs and other animals, not to kill them.

The most important difference between them is that animal rescue shelters don't euthanize dogs or other animals. Usually, dog pounds catch the dogs that wonder unconstrained on the streets. The dogs picked up by the dog pound will be kept in their facility for only a few day; during this time the owners can recover them or other people can adopt, but after that limited period they will be euthanized. In contrast with a dog pound, an animal rescue center is run by a compassionate nonprofit organization with the purpose of saving, not killing animals. The activity of an animal rescue organization or group addresses to all those animals that stray on the streets, or that have been abandoned by their owners on the side of the road, to those puppies raised in puppy mills or to animals that are abused or neglected by their owners. The volunteers working in such organizations will take the dog or other animal to the rescue shelter where it will be examined, groomed and its possible injuries or diseases will be treated. The goals of these animal rescue shelters are to save these animals from the poor conditions they are for the moment, to bring them into a healthy status and place them in families able to care for and love them.

If a person is looking for an animal rescue, or an akita rescue shelter in order to adopt a dog, all they have to do is a simple search either in the phone book or on the Internet, and of course humane societies in compassionate animal societies are wonderful resources to find an animal shelter. A good animal shelter should be clean and organized. The dogs should look like they are on their way to recover their health and their livelihood. The condition should be clean in addition not being overcrowded. Animal shelters are funded by a variety of donations. Therefore, the funds should be used wisely to make sure that these animals are being treated in the most compassionate way possible for them.

When you adopt an Akite from a rescue shelter, you know it has its shots done and was sprayed and neutered. The health of your dog will be certified when you adopt it. Any major health issues or personality deficiencies have been identified and cured. Nevertheless, the dogs arrived in rescue shelters have been rejected by their owners. They are psychically affected and need proper treatment.

While adopting a dog especially akita rescue dogs can seem like a cost-efficient way to save a dog, one has to make sure that they're very compassionate and patient. The Akita especially requires patience, because they're such a dominant dog that needs constant and ongoing training. This is a personality trait that is unique to this breed. If a person decides that they want and Akita rescue dog, they should be prepared to roll up their sleeves for the rest of the dog's life. However once the Akita rescue has established itself and submit it to its human alpha master, they make extremely loyal pets to any pet owner would be glad to have.
