Which Baby Monitor Should You Buy?

By Elena Cabral

There was a time when it wasn't so complicated to get the right things for your baby. When it came to picking a high chair, baby monitor or crib, there were only a handful of choices. It's a very different world today, where you have hundreds of brands, models and styles for these and related items. It can be challenging today to decide which brands and products are best when it comes to shopping for your baby. There are simply so many possible choices, how do you know you are making the best one? Let's look at some helpful hints to simplify this process.

The price is always going to play a key role in your final decision. But you should consider that the price is actually a small factor when it comes to your final decision, and should not be your only criteria. The only factor that the price should have in your decision, should be how much value (how many features) you are actually getting for that price. It's important to recognize that the "cheapest" system may not always be the best, because if it were to malfunction ever, you may end up in a troublesome situation when it comes to your baby. Instead, look at what you get and for what price you get it, and lots of features could make up for a higher price!

Another key factor which you need to consider is how much you actually want to be able to keep track of, when you are not in the room. Some systems just keep track of the sounds, while others may keep track of any movements in the room by alerting you. There are even systems which have full video and audio monitoring capabilities. But when making your decision, you really only need to ask yourself how much you actually want to be able to monitor when you are not in the room. Keep in mind that if you choose not to purchase that expensive "all inclusive" baby monitoring system, it does not make you a bad parent, but just means that you are simply choosing the system which you think is best for you and your family to monitor your baby.

This might sound like a small thing, but choose a system that will let you know when its batteries are running low. No mother want their monitor to quit working while everyone's sleeping, so you'll want to remember when to charge or change the batteries. It's a great time saver and will reduce worry.

It's important to consider the battery life, because if you frequently forget to charge your other electronic devices or don't want to always have to be changing the batteries, then you will want a system, which at least can last overnight. There are monitoring systems which have the rechargeable battery option equipped with a charging station, and there are systems which allow you to plug the receiver into an outlet overnight for backup protection, but once again, it all depends on the type of battery life you want.

It's always good to ask yourself questions when you are trying to buy a baby monitor, because the extensiveness, strength, and even size are all important factors which need to be taken into consideration before choosing a system. Buyers should also be looking at price and the system's lifetime expectancy as well. The type of monitor you need will depend on you and the needs of your whole family, so it's best to figure out what you want your monitor to do and then go out and find something that will do it!
