If you have elected to purchase a hamster, it is good to know that there are 5 hamster types that you can decide on. These are Winter White Russian Hamster, Syrian Hamster, Campbell's Dwarf Hamster, Chinese Hamster and the Roborovski Hamster.
Winter White Russian Hamster
This variety of hamster is originally found in the plains of Northern Kazakhstan. Its title can be ascribed to its color-changing skill. Because it came from a snowy origin, it changes its coat to winter white for safety. But if you are fostering one, it is better to keep them warm and comfortable indoors. These hamsters can be grouped in a cage, as long as you put them together when they were still little.
Syrian Hamster
These are your solo hamsters. They select to be alone. Even in the wild, they roam around alone. So, I'm strongly suggesting that you leave them alone as well in the cage. This hamster type can be too hostile if another hamster is sharing with its territory.
Though they lack amiability, they make up for it with their cool coloring. First branded as "Golden Hamster", they have mutated producing new generations with assorted colors and undercoats. They are also the most regular breed that you can buy in a pet store.
Campbell's Dwarf Hamster
Campbell's Dwarf Hamsters are easy to take care of. You can set them in companies, preferably of similar age and gender. They have a yellowish to brownish coating, which turns grey during cold seasons. These hamsters are somewhat associated to Dwarf Winter Whites, that some people have a uneasy time seeing the difference between the two.
Chinese Hamster
This specie is somewhat special from the other types of dwarf hamster. They are long-tailed and have a covering that is not that woolly compared to the other species. It has a fair grey belly and a brownish dorsal stripe. For males, their scrotum is large. This type of hamster is normally hostile at first. Patience is necessary in domesticating it. Once tamed, they can be nurtured easily. Often times, they develop to 10-12cm and live for about two years.
Roborovski Hamster
This is another type of dwarf hamster. They are short-tailed, yellowish in color, and they possess striking whiskers that make them look unique from the rest. They don't have dorsal stripes like other hamster types have. They are also the littlest breed with a full growth length of 5.5cm. They are affable and can be put together in companies. Lifespan for this breed is usually three years.
It is important to have a in-depth understanding of hamster types before you opt in raising one. It will make it stress-free for you to handle them and avoid mistakes that amateurs always make. This will be advantageous for you.
