Why Chrome Bar Stools Will Forever Be In Demand For The Home

By Mel Middleton

Chrome contemporary stools have never lost their popularity or identity. The shiny curved surfaces have caught the imagination of many designers. A growing number of people choose to add nostalgic items to their home. The chromite bar stools today fit in ideally around the kitchen island. The slightly akimbo chrome foot rests are still incorporated into the futuristic style of these chairs that are a pleasant progression from the more austere style of Googie's predecessors.

The nostalgia of the past is still popular. The barstool has been designed to be our reminders of furniture inspired by the planets over fifty year's ago. Shoppers can choose from basic black, white and many colors in between. The geometric shapes paired with chrome quickly bring back the Googie look in anyone's kitchen.

Super stylish ice cream scoop bar stools are made from a metallic-toned semi-transparent acrylic material. While the chromite shines with a great robustness to it the designers have emerged with a vast reworking of the shapes and materials atop the shiny pedestal base. There is something endearing about this Googie style and many people from a new generation are embracing it wholeheartedly.

The metal coating is made from chromium which is a type of metal that is used to furniture, automobile fixtures, water faucets and many other items that are usually made of copper or nickel. It exudes a sense of crisp cleanliness. It looks suitable both in the bathroom, kitchen, dining room and garage. It is produced in either a shiny or brushed finish.

Chromium oxide was first used by the Chinese 2000 year's ago for covering their steel swords. This kept them from corroding while adding a hard exterior coating. In 1827 the US was found to have large deposits of chromite and later Turkey too contributed to this industry with their chromite discovery.

The look of chromite carries with it a shiny optimism. After World War II the economies of many western countries started booming. Chromite was the ideal metal that could accessorize the mighty Made In USA motor vehicles that flaunted their sexy looking fins and flash. These gas guzzlers invited flambuoyancy and have become collectors' items decades later.

The chrome barstool became ubiquitous in bars, soda fountains, restaurants and eventually people's homes. Interior designers brought the shine into most of the rooms of the house. The optimism and pride in self fulfillment continued to grow in the US and the bright, fresh look of chromite was the ideal metal to bring this idea across.

The smooth feel of chromite is reassuring. It feels modern and expensive and can be made into any shape the designer creates. Once the chromite coating has been integrated into the home it can play a functional as well as artistic role. Professional decorators are very good at integrating new materials into the world around us.

Chrome bar stools are available in a myriad of vintage colors of the 1940s, and 50s. At this time in history chrome was opening up the doors to provide a futuristic look to ones home or workplace. While taking a backseat in importance for many years, chrome has finally emerged to show again how attractive and psychologically powerful it can be. A new age has begin where space will play an even stronger role in world affairs and chromite has a place in design to express this new movement.
