Chances are you will have both of these, even before you began quilting. The great news is that you almost certainly will not have to buy a new one - unless your old one is causing you problems with everyday ironing.
With the iron, you have to make sure you can adjust the temperatures and you can turn the steam functions on and off. This is important as you'll need to adjust both of these dependent on the sorts of materials you plan on using in your quilt.

Just be sure to test it out before buying it to make certain that it works! It also will be useful for the more complicated designs like a mosaic or rose quilt design.
