Green Decorating: Using Nature In Your Home's Dcor

By Adam Ciboch

Two terms that have become a part of the world of interior decorating are "nature inspired" and "eco-friendly." Both terms indicate the huge impact the environment has had on decorating trends and consciousness despite the obvious disparity in their meanings.

Eco-friendly decorating and green decorating trends cover a vast range of products and ideas. One of the most popular nature-inspired decorating trends has been the use of Faux Bois (fake wood). Accessories designed to resemble wood, particularly, metallic Faux Bois, are currently quite hot. If you are a lover of prints, nature printed onto fabrics and other material might be right up your environmentally conscious alley. Leaf and floral prints are also very appealing and vastly diversified.
An important color trend in home decorating in the last year or so concerns the growing popularity of floral lavenders and purples. The connection between the color blue and its association with water has made blue an increasingly popular choice in home decoration. Many ideas for home decor have derived from the concept of water and flowing nature.

The idea of using recycled materials in green interiors is here to stay while other trends may come and go. Recycling has raised awareness of the need to save our planet and there is no way anyone can go back to being unaware of the importance of being "green."

One way to help reduce the enormous landfill dilemma is to buy new items that are made of natural materials. More durable, timelessly stylish and more lightly manufactured, products made from natural materials help the environment. The modern consumer seeks out those appliances that support the environment by being energy-efficient.

The issue of how you can help the earth should be paramount in your mind when you are altering the dcor in your home. Natural elements can become part of your new dcor by selecting earth-inspired pieces or those products that are eco-efficient and support the environment. To do both at the same time is an arduous task but one worthy of applause.
