Inexpensive Ways To Decorate Your Home For Christmas

With the economy sinking, and so many presents to buy, it is still possible to have a festive home decorated cheaply and beautifully. Almost all decorating was once done by early Americans with homemade items. Often they used natural articles to make their home more festive. For those who are found of Victorian themed decor, this can come in very handy.

Often, Christmas cards are used as a simple and pretty touch. An elegant touch is added when these cards are set out in the house. As people mail you more of these, you can set them out as well, decorating for free. At the end of the Holiday Season, store these with your usual Christmas decor.
Adding a little water to a bowl of flour, you can form ornaments which look like cookies. Make the consistency firm as you stir. You can use cookie cutters to shape the dough into festive ornaments. Place them into a hot oven and cook until they are stiffened, setting them out for a while. Add color to the "cookies" by painting them with enamel paint. Pull a strong though a hole which you have placed in the top, and hang as you wish.

Making garland with the kids can be fun as well. In addition to the normal popcorn, berries and such can be used as well. This garland can be a family affair, with everyone pitching in to help. For smaller children, you may wish to simply glue colored paper rings together. These rings can form a brilliant garland.

Even items which may seem like garbage have potential as Christmas decor. One such item is the boughs cut from the underside of the tree. Setting these around in the home adds a nice touch. Near the Christmas cards you placed before is a good place for the boughs. Add a touch of color with candles or berries.

You can also form a wreath with items found outside. Gather a good bunch of vines to start with. Vines found in the woods are great, just be sure they are thorn-less. Using just a piece at a time, twist the vines around to make a circle the size of the wreath. To make the wreath thicker, simply twist in more vines. Using more pieces of the tree, or berries and such, the wreath can be decorated.
