What Sofa Is Right For Me?

By James Jacks

Sofas can be found at just about every furniture shop both on and offline. The key is to find one that you'll love and that also matches the rest of your home or office. As with any furniture piece, making sure that you are 100 percent satisfied with your purchase is most important. With that in mind, here are a few guidelines to ensure that you've made the right decision.

Price - Obviously, you can't aim to purchase a luxury sofa if you don't have the money. The good news is that you don't have to settle for less. There are plenty of places that sell quality, aesthetically-appealing couches at low prices. The key is to know how much you are willing to spend, and then strive to find the best deal.

Outdoor/Indoor - Are you interested in an outdoor or indoor sofa? Outdoor ones are wonderful for placing inside the garden, out on the patio, and even in the living room. They're considered much easier to clean and are great for areas with high traffic. Indoor couches are not as sturdy, but perhaps possess a bit more ease in comfort and come with a larger selection. They may cost more to clean, but for many, are the better choice.

Visual Appeal - No one is going to purchase a sofa that they do not think is aesthetically appealing. Before purchasing sofas, it's always best to consider the overall look of the room of which it is going to be placed. If you have a lot of small children, consider purchasing a leather one or one made with darker fabrics, just make sure that it blends well with the rest of the room.

Size - Of course, size must always be taken into account. There are love seats, sectionals, and regular-sized couches, as well as ones that are much larger and longer. It all depends on the amount of space you have available. In addition, consider the amount of traffic coming through the area. To make things simpler, purchase a sofa that allows for enough traffic while occupying just the right amount of space.

Quality - The last thing anyone wants is for their couch to fall apart on them. Fortunately, you can eliminate this possibility by making sure your sofa is sturdy enough before buying. Sit on your couch and determine whether or not you can feel the frame. Push on it and check for flimsiness. Also, check out the fabric to ensure there are no cracks or tears. If the couch is too soft, cushions may flatten rather quickly. You might also want to find out whether or not your couch comes with a warranty, as it may save you a lot of money in case something happens because in the end, every penny counts.

Tight Back vs. Pillow Back - A pillow back comes with detachable pillows and is considered much more comfortable. However, if you're looking for a firmer feel, consider a tight back, which simply means that it comes equipped with non-detachable pillows. If you have back problems, a firmer couch may be the better option.

However, if you're looking for a more elaborate and luxurious look, a pillow back is probably your best bet. Although the entire selection process might be frustrating, you'll be glad that you took the time to find the right sofa. There are certainly many things to consider. However, it's always much better to take the time to examine what you really need than to make a hasty decision and later regret your choice.
