5 Fast Suggestions to Making Homework More Fun

By Thomas Brand

It's a well-known fact of life that most kids dislike homework. This is because homework means more time needed for studying and less time to do their favourite things like watching the television or playing their favourite games. But you as a parent can always change your child's attitude of doing school work at home for the better.

Here are some quick methods to make homework time a better time:

Establish a Homework Routine - Having a set routine works wonders. If the time to do homework is not clearly set (and enforced when necessary), you are almost doomed to struggle daily to get your youngsters to do their homework. Study time everyday should be part of your house rules. When your kids are brought up following such rules, then there will be no difficulty with homework - it is already part of their daily routine.

Put distractions away - As much as possible there should be no interruptions while your youngsters are doing their home work. So distractions like radio, TV or computers should be turned off. Other potential diversions such as games and toys should be out of reach when doing school work. In this way your kid will be well placed to focus much more readily on completing homework.

Be imaginative - Particularly younger children become bored easily. Make their study time as interesting as possible. If you can, incorporate stories or perhaps role-play that your kid is a prince or princess and the homework is a component of their training to be in charge of the kingdom one day. You could also do role playing and act as if you are the teacher and your youngster is the student. By doing this, your child will see that doing home work can be a fun experience, too.

Use suitable encouragements - Every time that your kid finishes doing homework, ensure that you appreciate what they have done and tell them that they are doing a good job. So after homework has been completed, give your kid playtime or a yummy fruit.

Try to not bribe with sweets and chocolates. Doing so sets up a belief in your child that these processed foods are highly desirable. These kinds of sentiments typically carry through into adulhood and it comes as barely a surprise to find many adults who can not stop sugar cravings. We do not want to create any more health and weight problems in this world...

Making your children love doing homework may not always be possible. But they will learn to see homework as a rewarding activity that they can show pride in. That in itself makes it enjoyable and fun, especially when you give them the responsibility and trust that they can do well in their activities after school.
