Fun and Simple Wall Art Projects for Kids

By Autumn Lockwood

Creating art projects is an activity that many children really love. Painting, drawing and making crafts aren't just fun activities for a child, they may also be great ways for a kid to learn coordination and small motor skills. As an added advantage, by learning how to love art while very young, your son or daughter will probably carry this appreciation for the arts throughout their entire life. If you'd like to help your son or daughter exercise their creative skills whilst enjoying a great time, here are two fun and easy art projects to undertake.

Art Utilizing the Hand
If you want a craft project that's fun, fast and cheap, it's hard to beat hand art. The only things that this craft require are a box of crayons, a pad of paper, plus your child's hand. You could begin by tracing your own hand on the piece of paper with a crayon. Then, use your creativity to transform the hand tracing into something entirely different. Although almost everyone has traced their hand and transformed it to a turkey during the Thanksgiving season as a child, there are many other creative and fun activities to do. An example is to draw a face within the palm portion and make the fingers into a spiked hairdo. Another fun idea will be to turn your paper upside-down once you have made the hand tracing. In this position, the fingers could make an insect or space monsters legs. This is a creative and inexpensive way to spend a few hours. Be sure to display one or two of your child's favorite hand tracing creations in picture frames.

Paper Towel "Tie Dye" Project

If you have a roll of plain white paper towels, water, a few rubber bands or "twisty-ties," some paper clips, several small bowls and a box of watercolor paints, your son or daughter can create a myriad of tie dye artwork. Start by placing a vinyl tablecloth or plastic drop cloth on the table to safeguard the surface. Fold an ordinary white paper towel into a fan-fold fashion. Then, make use of the rubber bands, twisty-ties or paper clips to constrict the folds in certain areas. Pour a little water into every one of the small bowls. Then, utilizing the watercolor paints along with a brush, place a different color to each bowl of water. Dip your folded paper towel into a color, then dip another area into another color. The paper towel absorbs the colored paints, while the places that hold the paper clips, rubber bands, and twist ties will stay white. When you're pleased with the amount of color, gently blot the folded towel using clean paper towels until all the excess moisture has been absorbed. Then, remove the rubber bands, twisty-ties and paper clips to reveal the tie dye thing of beauty. Lay your beautiful creation flat to dry. If you don't want the folds in it, place a clean paper towel over the painted paper towel and iron it. This magnificently colored tie dye art looks good when displayed in picture frames, adding plenty of design and color to your room.

Now that you have some new ideas you can try, have some fun getting your child started. Remember to frame the finished product so your child can proudly display it!
