Baby Facts Not Included in the Baby Books

By Sofia Andrade

Nothing is as interesting as learning how children develop and grow. The complexity of how a child goes from being a zygote to a functioning adult in just a few years is fascinating. The fact is that there is a lot more to a baby that initially meets the eye. Babies are far more complex than people think. Nurturing and helping a child grow up involves meeting a very specific set of needs. Being a baby is far from simple. Good parents learn everything they can about how their children are developing, even in the early stages of infancy.

Often, by the time a woman knows she is pregnant her fetus already has a beating heart. The heart forms and begins beating around three weeks after conception takes place. This is usually when most women find out that they are pregnant. If you ever wanted an excuse to be fascinated by babies the fact that it only takes three weeks to build a beating heart would probably do the trick! Think about everything that your heart does and how strong it needs to be and then marvel at how quickly you made its foundation while you were in the womb.

Did you realize that some people give birth to babies who already have teeth? Still other babies are born with no hope of having their teeth come in until they hit their first birthdays.

Did you know that when babies grow tails? It's true! In addition to immediately beginning to build major organs, your baby will also start to form a tail during the first few weeks after conception.

As your baby grows inside of you the rest of his body develops and the tail usually ends up disappearing-it sort of blends in to the rest of the body as it grows. The whole process is similar to the way tadpoles grow up to be tail-less frogs. Some people, however, have tails that do not completely disappear and they are born with them still somewhat intact. Surgical removal and waiting for it to be grown into are the two options that are available to parents whose babies are.
