Everything You Need To Know About Beeswax Candles - And More

By Clifford Gill

As you might guess, beeswax candles are made from the wax produced by bees. Wax is the byproduct of honey eaten by bees. The wax is then filtered from the honeycombs by the beekeepers and sold as candle material. Beeswax candles are the most natural candles that you can buy. Wax candles came in the following types - taper, votives, tea lights and pillar candles. For those with sensitive allergies, beeswax candles allow them to enjoy the warmth and beauty of a burning candle. You don't need to add any scent to a bees wax candle because the wax is naturally scented with honey. Therefore beeswax candles rarely have any additives and this includes color. The natural yellow color adds to the ambiance of a bees wax taper candle and the scent of honey will perfume the air.
Like soy candles, bees wax candles burn longer and cleaner than paraffin candles. Not unnaturally, wax taper candle will cost considerably more than both the soy and paraffin candles.

Not all beeswax candles are honey colored; some are white or certain shades of brown. Sometimes the beeswax is bleached by candle makers to make a lighter shade. The bleach will somewhat diminish the scent of honey although you will not be able to smell the bleach itself. The bleach also helps to filter the beeswax. If the beeswax is not filtered, the candle may contain impurities like wood bits or pieces of the bees itself.

Over time, you may notice that there is a white powder on the outside of your beeswax candles. This does not mean that the bees wax candles are no longer any good. The development of this powder is a natural occurrence with beeswax taper candles and is called blooming. You simply wipe it off the beeswax candle. It should interest you to know that the blooming of the powder will indicate that your beeswax candle is made of pure material.

Beeswax candles are comparatively easy to make, and you should have no trouble making it yourself. Beeswax is available in the market and, without need of color or scent enrichment, is easy to make. Likewise, the beeswax in sheets is filtered so there is also no problem there. Just melt it down and pour in your molds and you have your own home made honey colored and scented taper wax candles.
