When first glancing at the amount of information there is for the standard course of scuba training, and the skill needed, it might overwhelm you. The speed at which you learn will be set by your own determining. One of the benefits of courses taken online, is you can set the pace of study yourself. Your diving, both open water and confined, will be supervised training with an instructor. The progress of each student will be monitored by the instructor, who will then give a professional assessment. You will not pass your scuba training, if the instructor doubts your ability in any way. The knowledge associated with diving makes sense, and you can rest easy because it is scientifically solid.

Some of the basic medical concerns apply to women who are pregnant, regardless of term. Going deep underwater while pregnant may have ill effects on the unborn child, something that science has not conclusively shown, but most people would assume to be true. Pregnant women, as a general rule, really should never dive into the water. Of course there are obvious concerns if there are heart conditions or a history of them. If you are an epileptic, diving might not be a great choice for you. Medical advice is always recommended, especially before you go on a dive of any sort. The number one rule of diving is to always be safe, and you will have peace of mind knowing you have the go-ahead from your family physician.

The goal of confined water dives is to be able to successfully accomplish at least five dives in the pool. In order to increase your competency and skills, each dive that you successfully complete will be harder the next time. Basically, you will have to demonstrate the ability to do more and more things on each dive to proceed to the next. An example of this is requiring you to clean your mask while you are underwater opposed to being on the surface. Emergency skills such as breathing from a buddies regulator in the event your own develops a problem. As a prerequisite to being able to actually dive in the ocean or a larger body of water, trainees must learn these essential skills.

Once the training is complete, the remainder of your training will continue in the ocean where you learn more skills related to diving. Once there, you are now required to do what is called standard training curriculum which is basically a new set of skills and rules to learn. The first thing you'll have to do is do a little bit of swimming, specifically 200 m without wearing any gear whatsoever. You will then be asked to put on your snorkel, mask, and the fins that you brought with you and go about 300 yards or meters for the next segment of the training. The final stage is to have each person tread water or float on the water for about 10 minutes. There is no need to worry about how long it will take you to do distance swim as it is not timed by the instructors.

For the most part, students may not feel very confident when they begin or complete this type of grueling training in the water. All instructors that can teach you how to become a certified diver and know that these weak moments may arise. The self confidence to complete this course is within you, something that you need to realize, along with the fact that the instructor can back you up. Those that start the program, and go to the end, realize how much confidence and self-assurance they have developed by taking the program.
