How to Find the Best Budget Holidays

By Isobel Rees

Holidays are good because they make it possible for you to unwind and enjoy life. Below are several tips for finding the best budget holidays. You can start by booking Manchester Airport hotels in advance to get a good deal. You can leave your car at Manchester Airport Car Park for safety.
You can either get your package deal online or through a travel agent. Searching online is cheaper than getting a travel agent because with the travel agent you will be required to pay them a commission. On the other hand, a travel agent is better than searching online because most travel companies value travel agents and give them the best deals that you cannot find on websites. Do not let your tour guide convince you to book activities you will indulge in while on holiday as you will find that it is much cheaper to book the activities through the local tour agents once you get to your holiday destination. You can leave your car at Manchester Airport car park for safety.

With a package holiday the tour guide will give you flights, accommodation and connections all for one price. The main advantage of a package deal is that should your holiday company disappoint you will get a refund of the money you paid. Find out if your package deal has any hidden charges. There are some agents who make you believe that they have made you a good deal only for you to find out that there are hidden charges.

Timing is very important when it comes to holidays. You have two options: you can either book very early or book very late. When you book as early as several months before the holiday you will get a good discount and when you book at the last minute you also stand a chance of getting a discount. This is because most tour operators give discounts to people who book in advance and at the last minute. Last minute bookers get discounts to make up for the seats that have not been booked and to avoid travelling with empty seats.

Another way of getting a budget holiday is to go on holiday when everyone else is busy. If you have a job you can make arrangements and go for your annual leave during off peak months and proceed to your holiday. If you are already on holiday and do not want to spend much, you will find that you spend more when you eat out than when you eat indoors. You should try as much as possible to have your meals indoors.

Haggle with travel agents. Let them know that you have found a better deal somewhere else and ask them if they can reduce their prices to match it. It is also good to talk to several travel agents and see if you can find one that is cheaper. Avoid using your credit and debit card abroad because most companies will charge you 2.75% commission. If you travel frequently then you should get a nationwide account that will not charge you any commission when you travel abroad.

Last but not least, travel light because most of the no-frills airlines will charge you to check in your bags. The fewer bags you have, the better.

  1. You can also look at DIY holidays which is booking all the separate holiday elements individually such as flights, accommodation, transfers etc. The most important thing to remember though is to make sure you have adequate insurance to cover any losses which may arise from failure of 1 element of this type of package. Eg. If the airline cannot fly you out for whatever reason you need to ensure that the insurance will cover the knock on effect of losing the money paid for the accommodation and transfers.

Its not as scary as you might think though.
