Info Regarding Traditional Birthday Party Games

In the United States, birthday party games are probably the most consistent and unchanging traditions there are. No matter what the social or economic status of the mother and father, a kid's birthday party is probably going to have the very same events as his or her classmates, like Pin the Tail on the Donkey, Hot Potato, Pinata Whacking, and several more.

Hands down, Pin the Tail on the Donkey is one of the Western world's most popular and common birthday party games. It is typically played by younger children who patiently take turns wearing a blindfold and spinning in a circle several times.

After they have been properly spun, the kid must try to pin a little tail to a photo of an animal. The child who places his or her animal tail the nearest to the rear end is named the winner and usually gets a small toy. Though historically the event has been done with little pins, many adults choose to use Velcro or putty instead.

Musical Chairs is played with either medium or large sized groups of participants and a group of chairs. Traditionally, the chairs are placed together in a circle with there being one less than the amount of children playing. A non playing person, typically an adult, begins playing music as the participants begin slowly walking around the arranged chairs.

When the parent stops the music, all of the players must find places to sit quickly because the person who is left standing is out. The extra chair is removed and then the game play is resumed until just one person is left.

Pinatas are big hollow items constructed from cardboard that are decorated with bright strips of thin paper. The objects could be generic shapes like squares or cubes or constructed to look like popular cartoon characters. Before the party, they are filled with pieces of tightly wrapped candies and trinkets and then hung up so they are eye level with the children attending.

Another popular and time consuming game is Hot Potato. It is an especially popular game with parents of preschool aged children as it requires one easily attainable household object and is able to hold the attentions of large groups of kids. In it, participating children sit in a circle and take turns tossing a small object, usually a tennis ball or bean bag, to one another while music plays. When the music stops, the player left holding the object, now deemed a 'hot potato' is eliminated.
