Little Known Baby Facts

You probably already know a few things about babies. You understand that babies do not recognize most people right away. You know that they understand, instinctual, who their mothers are within moments of being born. You probably already know that babies develop at vastly different rates. Development milestones happen when they happen-how a baby grows up is not an exact science. The fact is that most people do not quite grasp just how intricate a baby's development really is. Infancy is a fascinating period in human development. So many things happen between conception and even early childhood. Even though it doesn't look that complicated the truth is that growing up is fraught with challenges and changes!
Many colors look almost identical to babies when they are born. Babies are born with eyes that are not completely finished yet and only partially formed synapses between the eyes and the brain. Babies see primary colors better than any other, which is why you should choose those colors for his nursery and toys. Babies like bold colors like yellow or red or blue or black or white best. Pastels are better for adult eyes.

Odd as it might sound, some babies come out with some teeth already in place! On the other hand, other babies don't even start teething until they are more than a year old.

Did you know that at one point your baby had a tail? It's true! For the first few weeks after conception takes place your baby will grow a tail as he grows the rest of his vital organs.

Most people believe that babies do not know how to smile before they are born. Smiling is often attributed to gas or the baby's having to go to the bathroom-at least until it reaches a few weeks in age. For more than a century people believed that smiling was an activity taught to babies by their parents. Crying seemed to be instinctual so everyone thought it was simply easier for babies to show when they were displeased and that expressing pleasure was something they had to be taught how to do.
