Affordable Baby Shower Ideas

A few guests can get together and get a big laundry basket. Place in it a long clothes line with outfits, diapers, bibs, etc. pinned to it. It can also decorate the new addition's bedroom. This is an all-around gift that goes down great because of its usefulness.

The Baby Quilt. Here is a great gift from those that love to sew and quilt. Find an alphabet quilt pattern. Each square has a letter of the alphabet on it and a picture of an object that started with that letter. It can have numbers too. Teamwork is key here, as you may want to give specific guests a square each, and before the shower they can add whatever bells and whistles they like and quilt accordingly. You can also ask your guests to attach baby toys and rattles if the quilt is to be hanged on a wall. Be sure that everyone signs their own block in some way and have the blocks returned by a certain date in order to have it put together. This makes an excellent decoration piece for the shower itself.

Create a scrapbook for the shower. Take blank scrapbook pages and have everyone write down their well wishes (without Mom knowing it) for the new baby. You can either have this completed during the shower or shortly before, or you could present it to the proud mom after she gives birth at the hospital. Some nice photos would accentuate such a gift if you give it post-shower!

On a related note, you could decorate pieces of heavy paper with anything related to babies - stamps, photos, what have you - and pass them on to your guests. Ask the team to write their names on the paper and give their own personal advice on parenting. Once everyone is finished, collect them, add a cover, punch holes in it, and tie it together with some ribbon. Then hand it to Mom to read aloud. Imagine the tears of joy as the proud new mama reads each heartfelt piece of advice! Girls, let your creativity and personality shine through on this idea!

Of course, you shouldn't make the expectant dad feel like chopped liver - have a little something ready for the man of the house by asking each guest to bring a small gift to be placed in a large gift bag to be presented after the main gifts. He opens this with Mommy-to-be at home or in presence of close family or friends.

Diaper Shower. For a second (or more) baby, consider a diaper shower. Ask each guest to bring only a package of diapers as a gift. Some guests may bring other gifts also, but Mom will end up with a mountain of diapers, something she will really need! Items could also include anything associated with diapering such as wipes, ointment, powder, etc.

The Casserole Shower. The Casserole Shower is especially neat for that mom who has all that they need. Ask your guests to prepare a casserole or ready to cook meal that would be best served after the baby is born, something that can be frozen in the meantime. And so Mom won't be clueless as to how to prepare the dishes, don't leave out the ingredients and cooking instructions. How helpful that will be when Mom and Baby come home!

The Book Party would be the last shower idea you can consider in this article. Just have your team of guests buy their most cherished book from childhood as a gift for the expectant mom.
