Choosing the Ideal Baby Pushchairs

By Ann Krall

Buying a baby pushchair can become confusing until you know what to consider before you choose one. Of course, safety is the first priority, but you also want a balance of comfort for the passenger and ease of use for the driver. The bad news is that most of the pushchairs (also called strollers) on the market today meet these criteria. You can erase the image of the pushchair you rode in because they don't exist anymore.
Options can be convenient but will add a higher price tag. Does the cup holder justify the extra cost? Do you find pushchairs with built-in toys effective at keeping your baby from crying? Some strollers have recordings and speakers that play musical tunes. These are only a few of the extra options to choose from. It's your decision whether to buy a stroller with extra options and only you will know whether you and your baby will use them or not. If you plan on only using the stroller to get from the car to the store, you can probably make do with a basic model. What are the best options to choose in your price range? These are simple questions to ask while shopping? If any is the most important, it has to be the brakes. Isn't your baby's safety worth a two minute internet search on the product's brake quality? It may seem unlikely, but there have been reports of a pushchair having a faulty braking system which unlocked and cause a stroller to roll down and incline or get blown into the street by heavy winds. Also, it will save you a lot of headache if you can get a braking system that can be easily locked and unlocked. You don't want to have to go through a whole rigmarole every time you want to set the brakes but you also don't want them to be so easy to operate that they wear out easily. Give the brakes a test or read what other users have to say before making a final decision.

When choosing a pushchair or stroller, keep in mind that the type of wheels and how they're attached to the stroller will be very important. You can choose between rigid fixed wheels or directional swivel wheels. You'll find that strollers fitted with fixed wheels are often cheaper, but they are also a lot more difficult to maneuver than those with directional swivel wheels. The wheels can be compared to those on the carts in grocery stores. Think about how you'd move around if those wheels didn't swivel. Can you imagine how difficult it would be to steer the cart any

The wheels can be compared to those on the carts in grocery stores. Think about how you'd move around if those wheels didn't swivel. Can you imagine how difficult it would be to steer the cart anywhere? Strollers and pushchairs have the same principle behind steering and control. You want something with maximum maneuverability. You also have the option of choosing a pushchair with a reversible seat. You can reverse the seat to face either outwards towards the direction you're pushing, or facing towards you. Using chairs like these can be great for those parents who want to use the same pushchair as their baby grows into childhood. If your baby begins to show signs of separation anxiety, simply turn the seat to face you. Then you can simply turn the seat so it faces outward when the baby shows interest in things outside of you. You can also choose to turn the baby away from harsh sunlight or away from rain if you're out in the weather. Of course, these models are usually more expensive than the non-reversible strollers, so take that under advisement when you make your choice.

Your pushchair will have to have a different set of features and strengths depending on what you use it for. If you own a car then you need to take that into consideration.

Is the pushchair the appropriate weight? Weight is more important than you may think. There is no need to search for the heaviest stroller, you just need something with a little weight to it. At times, babies can stir around, kick, shift, and move a lot, causing a stroller to tip over, a heavier stroller will prevent this from happening. You also want it to be light enough that you can push it without putting all of your body weight behind it. Why buy a chair that is too heavy when you won't be able to use it? We all live different lifestyles so what fits one person; will be the complete opposite for another person. You might want something with a lot of bells and whistles while your spouse is more concerned with how easy it is to clean the stroller after a day's use. You can easily come up with your list of desired options by asking yourself what will make our lives easier. You'll make the process much easier on yourselves and have an easier time making a final decision!
