Concealed Weapon Tips

By Mike Holcomb

It is becoming increasingly popular among gun owners to carry around their weapons in a concealed manner. This has been a major contributing factor to crime on the streets being drastically reduced in the last ten years. However, just because things are safer that does not mean that things are safe altogether. Having a concealed weapon is an important advantage that you can have over someone who is trying to rob or attack you. If you own a gun but do not have a conceal carry license, then you should see about getting one. Here are some tips you need to take to heart once you get your conceal carry license.

Once you have your conceal carry license, you need to go to a gun range. Do this before you get a conceal carry holster or anything else because you need to develop the ability to draw your weapon quickly, and you need to develop the ability to shoot it accurately. This is the closest you will get to preparation for an attack or robbery. You also need to practice your reload time. This is the best way to practice your shooting.

You also need to respect the necessity of a proper concealed holster. This is what will allow you to keep your weapon hidden. You need to factor in three things. You need to factor in your body type because they have holsters for different body types, and if you have one that is too small or too big it can present difficulty when you are forced to draw your weapon.

You also need to factor in what kind of gun you have. If you buy a holster for a revolver when you have a magazine fed pistol, then obviously it is not compatible and that will give you trouble. With the advent of concealable shotguns, if you have one, you will need to get a holster that is appropriate for it.

You also need to figure out whether you want your gun actually on your person or not. Specifically you need to figure out whether or not you want a gun holster that you carry on your body, or if you want a conceal carry bag or briefcase. It primarily depends on your profession, but keeping a conceal carry briefcase may look a little odd if you are not a business man. It all depends on what you feel will help to give you the edge in an emergency.

It is also important that you appreciate the fact that with carrying a concealed weapon comes a whole new set of rules. For example, you could be making a grave mistake if you carry your concealed weapon with the safety off. This could lead to some serious accidents. You also need to remember to never take your gun out of its holster unless you are in an emergency situation in which your life is in danger. And perhaps most importantly, if you are ever stopped by a police officer you need to inform him that you are carrying a concealed weapon and then hand them your conceal carry license.
