Wind chimes are often made of hollow wood tubes or rods which are easily painted with varnish to keep the chimes safe from the elements such as heat and water when it is displayed outside of the house. By selecting the right materials one can surely make sturdy wind chimes that can last a long time.

Glass is another favorite material in making wind chimes because it is easily available in different forms: bottles, crystals and simply glass. It may be stained or depressed, or better yet vintage ones.

These must be secured together with a durable string else you may end up with shattered glass if it breaks.

Metal tube wind chimes produce the best sound. By adjusting the length of the string, the thickness, and the position of the tubes, one can come up with a sound that is rich and deep - music for the soul.

To provide you with variety, you can check out some magazines or periodicals, then make a list of the necessary materials that fancy you. After the materials are acquired, you are now ready to create your own tune using the wind chimes.
