Where To Go On Holidays In Cornwall

By Peter Henry

Holidays in Cornwall are very popular due to the county being one of England's most beautiful. Most of the populated areas are situated along its long coastlines. It is 3,563 square kilometers in size with 534,300 people living there. Its only city is Truro, which is its administrative centre.

The northern part of Cornwall is where the beaches are located, whereas the south is more rocky. The centre consists of mainly wild and desolate moorland, with craggy granite outcrops. Towards the south it gets more pastoral. Cornwall used to be known for its mining and fishing industries.

Visitors to Cornwall should see the town of Fowey in the south. This a gorgeous little town, with a working port and thriving yachting community. Daphne Du Maurier wrote The Birds and Don't Look Now while she lived here. There is a museum dedicated to her, which shouldn't be missed.

St Austell lies a little further north west. It is famous for the Eden Project, which is an interesting and impressive place to visit. It is basically a huge greenhouse, which contains many species of plants and seeks to educate visitors regarding environmental issues.

The surfing town of Newquay lies in the north of the county. There are beautiful sand beaches in the town and is famous for its surf. St Ives is west of Newquay and also has great beaches.

At the end of the peninsular lies Penzance. This historical town has many very old buildings and maritime museums. It has many tiny little lanes and streets, where visitors can buy handicrafts. It also has a harbour area is particularly beautiful.

Cornwall is a great part of England to explore by car. Visitors will able to come and go as they please and see the beautiful towns and villages and see the wild and desolate moorland.
