Ceramic Tile For Bathrooms Review

By Henry Salisbury

Since the thirteenth century, ceramic tiles have been used in buildings and homes. They are considered to be the best multipurpose surface due to their impervious nature and ability to withstand extreme heat, moisture and stains. They also come in many colors, textures, designs, shapes and sizes. That is why many people prefer to use the ceramic tile for bathrooms, swimming pools and kitchens.

In the past, these tiles used to be used on the walls and other surfaces but not for flooring. This was due to their fragile nature. However, today they can be used as flooring material, thanks to the technological advancements in the industry. They are harder and thicker and are a popular alternative to hard wood and natural stone.

Since these tiles can be molded into different sizes, colors and shapes, the designs are infinite. Apart from arranging them into a tile field or accent, they can be used to form beautiful mosaics on walls and floors. These mosaics are found in buildings that date back to the thirteenth century in Mesopotamia, Turkey and Egypt. Today, ceramic mosaics are quickly growing in popularity and this trend is evident in many homes.

There are several advantages of using tiles instead of stone or cement. First of all, it is easy to clean and maintain them. You only need water and soap to clean them. Another advantage is that they are waterproof. If fitted and sealed well, these tiles successfully prevent dampness in the bathroom which in turn ensures that there is no foul odor coming from the bathroom.

Advantages of using these tiles are that they are easy to maintain and clean. All you need is clean water and soap to clean them. They are also waterproof. This gets rid of dampness and awful odors in the bathroom. Repairing them is also easy. If at all some of the tiles crack or chip, you can easily replace them with spare tiles.

Not all ceramic tiles are affordable. Some cost more than natural stone or hardwood. This is normally due to the amount of skill and manpower put into creating the tiles. A good example is hand-painted tiles. It does not matter the amount of technological advancements that take place in the industry, ceramics will remain for generations to come.
