Do You Have Trouble Keeping Your Baby Healthy And Warm In The Winter?

By Mark Walters

Keeping a baby snug and warm during the cold winter months is important in keeping a baby healthy during a long, dark winter. Babies, being much smaller than adults, have not yet developed extra layers of fat on their body, so parents need to be sure that they pack in extra blankets for their little one, especially on outdoor excursions, as the extra warmth will protect them from the chill of the outside air. Parents must remember to take care, when returning home, to remove the extra blankets, as once inside a baby can become very hot under all of the extra layers.

In fact, experts recommend the laying of a baby on its back for sleeping, and furthermore, not to cover it with any blankets or put a cushion under its head. It is a recommendation that the room should not be overheated, just kept warm. For an environment that is snug, use a flannel fitted sheet for the babies crib with a warm under sheet for extra comfort.

Dressing the baby sensibly for bed is always going to be important. Put them in all in one sleeping items ensuring that their hands and feet are covered and if there is the feeling that a little extra heat is needed than zip up baby blankets can be used. If there is the need to put a blanket on the baby make sure it is secured and they will not crawl under it.

Blustery early morning outings with your baby, are not preferable, but are not always able to be avoided. Dressing your little one in a full piece, padded outfit, may be preferable than layers and layers of extra clothing that may be difficult to get on a miserable baby early in the morning. These little suits come with hoods that keep their heads and ears snug and warm and are waterproof as well, so parents don't have to worry if they get wet.

Keeping clothes on the baby can be difficult so by using items such as boots and glovers that are tied on there is less chance of them losing them and being left cold. Look for blankets that have wither ties or Velcro as they are much more likely to stay in place and be effective.
