How To Ensure Your Parrot Is Happy

By Clare Kinley

First, ensure that your parrot is comfortable. This means that his or her cage should be sufficiently large for the bird to stretch his wings, and should ideally have an attached flight cage so that he can fly around a bit when he feels like it. Get as much parrot cage as you can afford in terms of space and cash. Also, realize that the parrot will become extremely sad if he is constantly kept caged. They want 'out of the cage ' time daily.

Next, parrots need a good deal of attention from the person that they have bonded with. They see this person as their best friend, and just as in human relations, if one party in the relationship isn't getting plenty of time and attention the relationship suffers - as does the individual not providing the appropriate quantity of time and attention, and the person not getting the time and attention.

Just as you need entertainment, your parrot needs entertainment. This goes beyond attention. For instance, if your spouse is at work, and you are at home, How will you fill your time? If you're busy with your own things, or at work, how will your parrot fill his time? He needs lots of toys to take the time that he spends alone.

Your parrot has to feel well in order to be happy. You need to routinely check him over for any signs of injury or illness, and schedule annual checkups with his vet. When something does not appear 'quite right ' with your parrot, figure out what the issue is, and whether or not it may be health-related.

Understand that a clean parrot is a contented parrot. Your parrot will like to play in a bird bath, and regular showers under the kitchen tap - or in your shower. Keeping your parrot clean also involves keeping his cage clean too.

Feeding your parrot a well-rounded, fresh diet will also help to keep her happy. Ensure that he's getting enough of the proper foods. Debate his diet with your veterinarian - and with him. Make it a point to find out which foods he really likes "and which foods he doesn't care for.
