Pregnancy Weight Gain is Extremely Important

By Jodi Ann Miller

Your small baby is growing and should weigh about 7 and half to 8 and half pound when he or she is born. Your body is also making liquids that protect and surround your baby; it is also making extra blood that's feeding the baby until her very own circulation system starts to function correctly. All of these smashing factors will raise your weight. But you should also consider the aspect of nourishment and how it play a very important part in your babies health and yours also.

If you don't eat a well-balanced diet that gives you all the calories and mandatory nutrient elements while you are carrying a child, then you risk pre-term delivery. Pre-term babies are usually underweight and are susceptible to a multitude of illnesses. It is important to gain the right amount of weight in your pregnancy and to eat a well balanced diet. What you can do is introduce a prenatal supplemental vitamin into your life as soon as you can or as early as you can, even before you are with child.

Weight Gain

It is healthy to gain about 5 pounds in the first three months of your pregnancy. After the 3rd month you should be gaining about a pound a week, as this is when your baby is growing the most and putting fat underneath his skin. If you're considered underweight, you must gain one or two more oz; conversely, if you're considered chubby you must gain 1 or 2 less oz. then stated before. In all cases, your health practitioner is the person who deems you over/under weight, so check with them on how much you should, or should not gain!

You must eat quality vitamins, trace minerals, and nutrient rich foods when carrying the baby; raw, organic vegetables and fruits are a superb start! You must keep clear of fast foods, fast food, and sea food, as all these contain high fat and sugar content that is not good for you or the baby. While the old proverb "eating for 2" is correct in a sense, you don't actually need to eat two times as much; in reality you just need about 300 extra calories added to your diet for a single pregnancy.

Your doctor will monitor your weight gain throughout your pregnancy, and will also measure the expansion of your baby. If you've got any questions about your diet, or weight gain, by all means ask your GP! They can also give you some excellent diet advice and resolve any questions you may have. If you experience a large drop in weight or a massive increase in weight in a short period of time tell your doctor about it straight away. Both of these are quite serious signs of dangerous medical problems that will put both you, and your baby at risk!

Remember: In case of doubt, scream out!

Never hesitate to call your local ER with questions, or concerns when pregnant. It is often best to shout out than to be sorry that you never did!
