What To Go Shopping For - Diwali Gift Ideas

By Anukriti Parsai

The festive season has begun and it's time to create your Diwali gift ideas list while getting ready for the holiday of lights, Diwali 2011. Diwali holidays are celebrated with great pleasure across the breadth of the world. You just cannot help but enjoy the lights, decorations and firecrackers that abound during this season of Diwali wishes.

The shops, malls and even street stores have all brought out their products and their "Sales" signs are on display.

The initial steps for getting ready for this holiday start with the cleaning of your house then purchasing the things you'll need for this Diwali.

Here is a little list to help:

Diya, candles, lanterns, lamps and ornamental bulbs:

You'll need all of these items for the lighting.

Diyas (earthenware oil lamps) are employed in the evening and you'll need four little ones and one enormous one for parties. Except for that, you are also going to need at least one diya for each room of your place.

You can put up as much as lighting you want using lanterns, lamps and strings of electric lights. Keep the scale of your house under consideration when shopping for decorations.

Remember Diwali is all about fresh starts therefore try not to use any leftover diyas from Diwali 2010. You can shop for these Diwali lanterns even a month or so before Diwali.

Sweets:

Candy are often exchanged with family and friends as a mark of happiness and well wishes. You can prepare them at home or order them at your closest sweet shop.

Take account of how much you may need and order appropriately.

You can also ask for sweet baskets that contain a mixture of different candy. Order up front for the sweets to be delivered on the days of Diwali or a day before and make sure that it's guaranteed to be fresh when delivered.

Attire and ornaments:

It is customary to wear new garments and ornaments on Diwali. You can shop for traditional wear some way ahead to give the tailors time enough for fitting and adjustments.

Have two (2) different sets of garments, one for the events and one for bursting the firecrackers (most preferably cotton or a material which is more fireproof).

Firecrackers:

Each and every year new categories of firecrackers come onto the market. Shop for the ones that you're more relaxed with. Try to avoid smoky crackers as they can cause allergies and even hearing impairment if they appear to be very loud and smokey.
