British Vacations You Should Know About

By Mandy Carol

When you look to travel to Britain, you might want to go around a certain time. There are many things that they like to celebrate. When you know what those British holidays are, you can plan accordingly and be a part of the celebration. Here are a few of them to know about.

One of the holidays is Easter. Now, many of you celebrate this at home. They celebrate in much the same fashion as they do in other parts of the world. You have the great music. You have a great parade as well. Another thing that you have is that you have some church services.

Something else that British women like to celebrate happens in May. This is called May Day. Here, you can take part in the Morris dancing. Other things that you do are that you might find that you are asked to walk around the May Pole as tradition goes. Something else that happens is that they pick a May Queen. It is rather fun and traditional; very elegant as well.

Something that is celebrated in June besides Fathers Day would be Coronation Day. This is the day in which the Queen was first crowned. To honor that, the troops do a special salute. There is a forty one gun salute that is fired by the Royal Troops at noon. That is something that is very special to both the Royal family and to the followers who have chosen them to be King and Queen for so long.

In July, you have what is called Orange Mans Day. This is where the men of the British population wear orange. What this celebrates is the Battle of Boyne. You will find that many things are closed on this date. There is a huge march with bag pipes and drums to commemorate this battle that took place in 1690.

By October, you have had quite a few festivals that are part of tradition, but then you have a celebration in October. This is known as Apple Day. This is one of the events that just came to be in 2010 and was not started by the Royal family, but by the commoners. They wanted to open a day that all can be a part of.

The last big time celebration that is considered a holiday is New Years Eve. This is when it is once again time to ring in a new year. People throw parties. They hold hands and sing when midnight comes. That is what many people like and fireworks are a must.

As you look into these things, you will find that there are many things that you can come across. One of those things that the British culture loves is that they love festivals rather than holidays. The holidays that they do have are history oriented. That is what you will find when you come here to Britain.
