Creative Ways To Use Photos

By Eve Canipe

Our photos of family and friends are some of our most precious items. Unfortunately, most of them tend to languish in storage boxes or on our computer. Instead of storing them, why not display them? There are many clever ways to decorate your home with photography.

Creating a photo table is a fun and unique way to display a few of your favorite photos. PrintBigPhoto.com, for example, offers side tables, coffee tables and children's tables that can be enhanced with your special photography. You can create a collage of photos, or just choose one favorite photo and have it enlarged to cover the table surface.

Highlight your children's talents and skills with a photo collage, which is a creative display digitally produced and featuring several photos in one print. For example, if you have a budding soccer star, you can upload his or her soccer pictures throughout the years to a professional photo lab. The lab can digitally create a collage feature all of your photos. These collages are great for children who participate in sports, theater, dance or gymnastics, but you also can create a special collage featuring all of your children or grandchildren.

Another fun idea is to head to your local craft store and get some decoupage supplies and consider covering different items. To create decoupage, you need special glue, pictures, scissors and your imagination. There is literally no end to the items that you can decoupage, from little boxes to lampshades to furniture or even whimsical items such as trash cans or tins cans, which later can be used to store pencils, pens and other supplies. You can decoupage table tops, shoes, an old trunk or even decopauge on a canvas and frame it. Pretty much whatever you can dream up will work.

While it might only last a year, a photo calendar is a great way to highlight some favorite pictures. Organize photos according to birthdays, anniversaries and other special events. For example, include a multi-generational picture for Mother's Day or Father's Day; include favorite Halloween pictures during the month of October. Don't forget to add special vacation photos or photos with pets. Some online calendar makers will let you customized the little boxes that designate each day, so you can add small pictures or icons to indicate specific events.

The frame shop and craft store are great places to find special photo items that you can use in your home, at work or on the road. A coffee flask with a slot for customizable photo collage is a great way to keep photos nearby. Pencil holders with slots of photos and other desk supplies are a great way to decorate an office. You can find photo pens, magnets, ornaments and much more. Most of these items are fairly inexpensive and offer fun ways to keep our treasured pictures near us at all times.
