Cursory Information About Turkey Hunting Secrets

By Hakan Hezliturk

Turkey hunters actually like an excellent hunt where the gobbler responds to a few calls they make. However, it is very rare that a single cluck will cause a gobbler to pay attention and start moving towards you. It is even rarer that a gobbler would really start responding to your clucks and come into view that easily.

Turkey hunting is an altogether different sport. These gobbling birds are not easy to hunt, as they are conscious that preying animals are looking out for them. They cautiously regard the turkey calls, before turning to go in the direction of the call.

The hunter must make diligent plans and preparations before starting, so that he would be able to hit a turkey before noon. Therefore, the hunter must be prepared to wait, and waiting seems worth it when he finally catches a hunt after long tedious hours, and returns home with it.

It's essential to see the techniques of triumphant hunters and get their opinion, so you are aware exactly when to make a call, once the roost has been found. At the hour when the gobbling turkeys just make their entry, it could be exciting to call them off their roost. After that, hunting down a turkey could be a really achievement.

A significant part of the hunter's action -plan is called the "cut and run". It is adopted by most of the skilled hunters. In this technique, the hunters pace silently through the reeds and at the same time make continuous turkey-calls. It may lead you to locate a turkey that has gone astray, and has in fact responded to your call expecting to get back to its flock. Call out loudly and roughly, again and again, so that a gobbler comes seeking a hen that is lost. It must be kept in mind that the turkey makes a swift response to the helpless call of a hen, than to an alluring turkey-call.

You should keep moving and keep a distance of hundred yards between the two calls that you make in order to maintain some space between you and the gobbler and be prepared to shoot. A hunter should be very alert and not get surprised to see one of the long beard or wild turkeys at a 30 yard distance from him. This can perhaps startle the hunter more than the turkey itself at times leaving him in no position to shoot and kill.

Fix the right place before setting up your hunting equipment as the turkey may pace around silently and you won't have the time to prepare once you have sighted it. While making the calls, use differing tones beginning from the low clucks to the complicated purrs, or call with loud tones. After identifying the sort of call that attracts the turkey, continue with it, and study the temperament of the wild turkeys around you.

In tough situations professional hunters recommend the tube call. You need to know that a lot of the turkeys have been scouted and hunted before by turkey hunters. This makes them alert and wary of the different turkey calls that you might choose. A tube call will provide you a unique option that the turkey has not heard before and most other hunters use strikers or box calls. So why not tempt them with something different?

The gobblers that are too stiff to respond are known as "henned up turkeys". Such turkeys may turn to the tube call. These turkeys invariably keep close to the hens and do not take a chance to move elsewhere. The turkey hens are inclined to take them to distant places, and therefore the hunter must make unusually loud and shrill calls to get their attention.
