How To Cope With Toddler Vomiting

By Beth Wells

Toddler vomiting may not be a sign that something is drastically wrong with your child. While it can be a serious sign of a medical issue, it may not always require help. Here we look at some of the reasons they may be ill, and what to look out for in order to take care of them well.

One of the most common reasons they may be sick is a viral or bacterial infection. They may also just have an upset stomach or caught something from another child. Generally, this will stop within 24 hours and they will be fine.
You should call the doctor if you notice blood or it lasts for longer than 24 hours. Signs of dehydration also need to be addressed quickly in order for them to remain healthy. Look for dry skin, no tears when they cry and a lethargic movement or inability to focus since these are signs of dehydration.

Take them to the emergency room if they have had a head injury recently. If you notice what looks to be coffee grounds in their vomit or they are experienced excessive pains in their abdomen, then you need to also go. All of these can indicate something that is severely wrong and it will need medical attention as soon as possible.

If they simply are ill, than you can give them chamomile tea to soothe the stomach. This can help settle it and keep other things down so they can feel better. If they are hungry, then crackers and dry toast can be given since it is easy to digest.

Toddler vomiting is a normal part of childhood and is not always a sign of something more serious. If you notice anything out of the ordinary then they need to have some medical attention, but remember most children will go through this and be uncomfortable. Being patience and offering love can go a long way to making them feel better.
