Raw Dog Food Tips

By Jamie Lansley

There's a lot of popularity surrounding raw dog food these days. There's actually good reason for that because pet owners do see a lot of positive changes among their canines who finally start eating raw. But these food stuffs are only limited of course to fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat such as beef, lamb, and chicken.

Some pet owners get alarmed when they see that their dogs start to drink less when they finally get into this new diet. But this is actually quite normal, unless the dogs refuse to drink any liquid entirely. Dogs that feed on kibble and other commercialized foods get less moisture from those foods. This is why they tend to drink more water.
As mentioned, among the raw dog food recommended are fish like mackerel. But there are some dogs who can be choosy and would not prefer some types of fish. In this case, you can substitute the fish diet with cold water fish or marine oil. Eating fish is important for dogs because it contains omega 3 as well as iodine.

Dogs who start to eat raw are noticeably less eaters. This is because they are finally getting all the nutrients that they need so they feel more full and healthily so. Dogs are actually advised to just eat a full meal once a day unless called for by a veterinarian.

To help dogs eat consistently, you can also develop a routine for them everyday. When they start to eat at a specific period of time each day they would be prompted by hunger naturally in the future. This would also help them avoid becoming obese.

The raw dog food diet also dispels the notion that dogs cannot be fed with actual bones. Contrary to popular belief, it's not cooked bones that are healthy for them. It is the raw kind. You should also just give them raw chicken bones as well as lamb bones because these are the ones soft enough to be chewed thoroughly.

Veggies are also good for your dogs' health. But just like kids, some dogs may be fickle about eating vegetables. What you can do instead is mix some bits of vegetables in the meals that you prepare for them. This way they would eat it unconsciously.
