Recording Your Little One's Firsts

By Daniella Frey

For a first time mother the birth of your first child is an incredible experience. The excitement of your baby's every first is overwhelming. Many first time parents want to document every detail of their child's life. To do this, many parents start creating a baby scrapbook.
Some parents like to keep a collection of photos in an album, while some get more creative by using cut outs, colours paper, stationary, stickers and more to create a one of a kind scrapbook. Scrapbooking can be very time consuming, which is why many parents opt for a template scrapbook that they can make their own with pre-designed pages they have to fill in.

For many baby scrapbooks, mothers take the approach of documenting their baby's first everything. This type of baby scrapbook includes milestones such as the birth, the baby's first tooth, first bath, first feeding, crawling, sitting, first steps, firsts words, first hair-cut and each of the baby's first holidays - especially the baby's first birthday. Each of these firsts are exciting and are often forgotten down the line if not documented.

Some mothers take their baby's scrapbooks further into their child's first few years of school by creating a school scrapbook. A child's school scrapbook records a child's first day of school, picture day, school plays, report cards, artwork and other school related activities.

Baby scrapbooks and school scrapbooks tell a more complete story of a child's life. Family pictures only tell part of the story. Scrapbooks reveal more depth to a child's life through short journal entries, souvenirs, pictures and more. You can use envelope pockets to put your child's first lost tooth, hospital bracelet or any other keepsakes.
