Solid Advice For Expectant Mothers (and Fathers)

By Andrea Freeman

Getting ready for a new pregnancy is a scary but wonderful time in your life. There seem to be so many things to do, so much to learn, so many appointments to remember. We keep doing it though for the awesome payoff at the end. Here's some tips to make your pregnancy as easy as can be.

If you have hemorrhoids do not use dry scratchy toilet paper, which can cause further inflammation and irritation of external hemorrhoids. Choose fragrance-free baby wipes or flushable personal wipes instead, and apply a barrier cream such as diaper ointment if the skin is especially irritated. Alternately, you may find it helpful to use a peri-bottle, which is a squirt bottle used for rinsing during the postpartum period.

If you get a headache when you are pregnant, make sure to stay away from aspirin. Aspirin has been proven to cause harm in both an expectant mother and baby. It is best to ask your doctor what medications are safe for you to use. Also, try relieving head pressure by using a cool compress.

Talk to your partner about how you will divide child care responsibilities before the baby's arrival. Many parents are surprised to find that one person often ends up doing the majority of the infant care. Outlining who will do what for your child can help alleviate any potential resentment and make sure you are both on the same page.

Make a birthing plan. Write down exactly what you will need to have the experience you want. Make sure who ever will be there when you give birth sees this plan. Making it ahead of time will allow you to make it when you are calm, and will give everyone enough time to be prepared.

Add appropriate nutrients to your diet and keep track of what you are eating. Ideally, you should add 300 to 500 additional calories per day during pregnancy. Keeping a food journal helps you ensure your additional calories are nutritionally sound for both you and your baby and helps you ensure you are taking in all necessary requirements.

If you decide to continue working while pregnant you should avoid working long hours. This can cause problems in your pregnancy because it can cause extra unnecessary stress and can also cause you to lose sleep. It is important to get enough sleep and stay stress free during your pregnancy.

One of the most synonymous words with pregnancy is cravings. When you are pregnant, be sure to indulge in only a few of your cravings. This way, you will avoid the extra pounds, but also be staying on track with the healthy diet you have outlined with your doctor from the start.

Pregnancy is one of the most special times of your life. It is a journey like no other, as the decisions you make will impact your child forever. Pregnancy is full of wonder, so many questions and so much information to take in. This article has provided you with a few basic tips to get you started on this miraculous journey. We hope you will find them useful and helpful.
