Training A New Puppy, The Bad And Right Way

Guides to dog training are a dime a dozen in the market place today. If you want to see real results in training your dog, make sure to commit to training him. The most common myth in dog training is that you will not need to spend too much time on it. This cannot be further from the truth.

Dogs with separation anxiety should not sleep in their human's bed. Fido may be warm, but unfortunately, sleeping in bed often causes dogs to build unhealthy, obsessive fixations on their owners. By giving your dog a crate or bed of his own, he will have his own space and learn a little independence.

Get in the habit of only giving your dog a direct command one time. It will seem easy to just repeat it over and over until he responds, but don't do that. Instead, revisit the training until your dog understands that you expect him to react the first time you say something.

Your dog will thrive on training if you leave them wanting more. Keep your training sessions brief and productive. When you have achieved small goals, cease your training session and your dog will anticipate more. The break from training will only enhance their anticipation and the response you get from your next session will be improved.
Learn how to use positive reinforcement for training outside of treats. Giving dogs treats to learn new behavior does work. You probably do not carry treats with you 365 days a year when you are not in an "official" training session. Learning to give praise or attention in the way of patting and hugging is great way to reinforce good behavior, and can be a treat replacement.

When potty training a puppy, give him a reward every time he eliminates appropriately. The reward can be a treat, or a simple "good boy". Your dog will learn to associate eliminating in an appropriate place with behavior that you want him to display. He wants to please you and so, will continue to display this behavior.

Housebreaking a dog takes time. Make sure that you take the dog out first thing in the morning and keep taking him out throughout the day. Always take him to the same spot when taking him out to potty. The dog will learn to associate this spot with his business. If an accident happens clean it up and ignore the dog. This will let him know that you are unhappy with him. Do not physically discipline the dog or rub his nose in it, doing so just intimidates the dog and makes accidents more likely to occur.

Your dog will react to the tone in your voice, so leave your baggage at the door when you're initiating a training session or even a learning moment. A fight with your boyfriend or the cat dragging in a dead mouse should not result in a stern, cold voice with your dog. Remember: if you dog has not done something wrong immediately beforehand, your interactions should always be positive.

When properly training your dog, you should never use food as the sole source of control over a particular type of behavior. Food is a necessity that dogs must have in order to survive, so they need other sources of rewards. In addition to giving good, you should pet your dog and give it praise.

A great dog training tip is to assume the role of the pack leader. All dogs have a pack mentality. There is typically a pack leader that influences the behavior of
