What To Consider When You Need Animal Removal

By Adriana Noton

Living with the rest of the world can be complicated, especially the furry, four-legged and winged world. Sometimes, you just want these pests to go away, and need to consider if animal removal is the right answer. In most cases, a professional pest control agency is the right choice if you decide removal is needed.

There are two major classes of animals that you might be dealing with. Domestic animals that are on your property can legally be captured and turned in to the animal shelter. Some shelters and many pest control agencies rent out humane traps for this purpose. Any non-domestic animals that you accidentally catch must be turned loose, however.
For people with feral cat issues, trapping is permitted. A shelter will take the cats in as strays without a fee to the trapper, in most cases. However, feral cats are not adoptable, and will be euthanized at the shelter. For people who are willing, there are often 'trap-neuter-release' programs available that will fix and vaccinate the cats before re-releasing them in the same area. This eliminates a lot of the smell, fighting, and other issues involved.

There are always laws regarding what can and cannot be done with the local wildlife. In most cases, these laws will spell out what an animal must do in order to be classified as a nuisance or danger. Unless it meets these definitions, it is unlikely to be legal to trap and remove it.

When animals do meet the criteria for nuisance or pest animals, they can usually be trapped and euthanized or relocated. However, this process must be completed by a licensed pest control agency in most cases. Release in another area is a desired outcome, but many animals would not survive in a new environment and thus must be humanely euthanized.

A few special cases do exist. Sometimes, homeowners are willing or even want to take in certain types of wildlife, in order to deal with other pest issues. Non-venomous snakes are the most common, as they help control rodent populations. Some snake relocation agencies even have waiting lists of private homeowners wishing for a rodent control helper.

Animal removal Toronto is not always possible, but you can still do things to get them to remove themselves. Species-specific options are often best, as various things discourage different animals. The best source for information on domestic animals straying in your area is your animal shelter. A licensed pest control agency, or the local department of fish and game will have the most up to date information on dealing with unwanted wildlife.
