The Benefits of Taking Parenting Classes

By Sandy Ingram

Do you want to be a better and more responsible parent? Do you want to equip yourself with the necessary knowledge and skills that will make you the best parent you can be? If yes, then you should consider taking Parenting classes. Contrary to what many believe Parenting classes are not just for troubled parents or for those who have trouble dealing with their children. The fact is anybody can attend the class especially if he or she has that desire to become a better parent. These classes are conducted by guidance counselors and non-profit organizations while some are sponsored by various government organizations including schools and those in the social welfare sector.

Perhaps you're wondering why you need to take Parenting classes. Just so you know there are many things you can benefit from them including the following:

Feeding Feed your baby with breast milk alone for the first few months. It is always better to sit upright while feeding your baby. Remember to pat the baby on back after each time you feed. This is to avoid vomiting caused due to gas formation. You can start with solid foods from the third or fourth month. Always prefer for vegetables, than fruits. If you are feeding them with fruit juices, it is better to avoid acidic fruits. Including soya in the diet will foster growth.

Discover the trigger What are the situations that make your child pull hair, bite nails, or twitch? Is your child nervous, angry, tired, or bored? Call your child's attention to the habit and discuss it together. Try to find out what's causing the habit and if your child is bothered by these actions or feels comforted by them.

If you can, adjust the environment to eliminate the cause. For instance, if you notice the nail-biting increasing when your child watches TV after school, it might help to find engaging extra-curricular activities that will keep your child busy and stimulated.

How to find parenting classes It's not so hard to look for a Parenting class. If you have a child who's often called up in the guidance counselor's or principal's office his or her teacher can recommend a parenting class that can help you become a better parent to your child which in return can also make your child more manageable especially in school.

Find ways to relax For some children, habits are a way of relaxing or distracting themselves from a stressful situation. Try teaching your child healthier ways to calm down, such as deep breathing exercises.
