It worked beautifully and felt great. I got some goggles out, and whenever I hit a rock, I used a small garden shovel at that very moment to dig the rocks out from the immediate area in front of me and kept moving.
My only concern is how well it will hold up over time. I had another Black and Decker product (a hedge cutter) and it was flimsy.
It worked better than expected and I am very happy. For the money it's a great buy despite getting some strange looks from my women friends, I requested this for my birthday. If you keep on top of it, this should work out just fine. Electric, has power, easy to push, and this is the 3rd Black & Decker Edger I have owned.
I purchased this edger as a replacement for an electric edger that gave out. This is a very powerful edger that does the job quickly. I just purchased the new Edge Hog from Black & Decker and could not believe the power it has. I love the fact you can use it for trenching too-I just installed some outdoor lighting with it and use it around my garden beds and also along my sidewalks. I was a bit leery of an electric edger, thinking it might not have the power to do the job. But after reading many of the reviews here decided to take a chance. We have shopped for about a year for one of these and we definitely made the right decision. I hate yard work, so I got this for faster work and it is, has held up good over a year. I bought it to replace a much more difficult one to use, a gas-powered one from Sears. Even though it is electric and using a cord is somewhat more restrictive, it does a good job and is easy to use.
I like both the edging and trenching features. The Edge Hog has a lot of power so it makes the work easy. If I could, I'd give this piece of junk 0 stars. I've never had a B&D product that has lasted any length of time. It is right under the seam of the blade chamber. I had no problem cutting the sod on the street side in a straight line without causing any sparks.
My Husband has been looking to buy this, but kept putting it off. He is very happy with it and neighbors even say they see him in the yard "playing". Purchase at a local retail store and used approx. a dozen times over the last 2 years. I did not know if an electric edger would do as good a job, but it does as good or better, and is so much lighter and easier to handle. Before, I would be worn out by the time I got the edger cranked, but all I have to do to get this one going is mash the trigger.
