Tips for Tackling Crochet Hat Patterns

By Bethany Lees

As we know, there are of course various levels of crochet and some of us will now consider ourselves to be at the expert level.

No question we can all use those little tips which make it a bit easier and help us to improve.

We all benefit from knowing the different ways to complete some stitches or how to add bits to our crochet hat patterns and some know more than others.

Perhaps these tips seem more for the newbie but we can never know what we do and don't know at any given time so perhaps there is something for you.

Certainly this first tip will seem a bit obvious but none the less necessary, check you have the pattern you want and then the amount of yarn required. Once you know the amount of yarn make sure you buy all at once to avoid any small differences in shade.

Avoid that major annoyance of breaking yarn by rolling it into a nice and tidy ball this will let you flow without stopping to fix yarn all the time.

Make sure you have not got any dirt on your hook as this will transfer to the yarn and can be awful and messy, a quick wipe will ensure this does not happen.

To ensure there are no problems it is always a good idea to turn each row when finished, always ensuring that you turn a different way each time so once clockwise and the next anti clockwise. This will ensure the finished item is not in any way twisted.

If you embroider all the yarn ends into the work it will ensure the ends are neat and tidy and impossible to be seen.

The joins may be a bit thicker when you sew them into the project but it will be a lot neater and produce a really good finish.

Adding beads is not as tricky as it might seem and the best ways are to either add it direct to the hook or onto the yarn pulling each onto the project when required.

These tips are just a few but I hope were in some way helpful.
