symptoms of lactose intolerance in babies - The facts

By JoAnne Purdy

Research has shown that in modern industrialized societies, lactose allergy in babies is on the rise. Not only lactose allergy, babies are developing different sorts of food intolerances as well. The precise reason for this is not known, though there are plenty of theories making an attempt to explain what is happening. The first idea has to do with cleanliness. This indicates that modern societies are so clean and sterile; the infant's immune response turns around and starts attacking harmless proteins found in food. The second theory attempts to explain the fetus in vitro has tolerate all types of chemicals and poisons. After it is born, the infant's body so cannot cope with natural compounds found in milk or other foods.

Irrespective of the reason might be lactose bigotry in babies is on the rise and has become tricky. Some of the most typical lactose-reated intolerance symptoms are like this. Little weight gain, disproportionate gas, colic, difficulty dropping off, stomach pain, diarrhoea, loose and green colored stools and vomiting. Lactose related intolerance can also manifest itself as eczema. The thing to bear in mind here is that when a baby has a few of these symptoms, it does not always mean it is suffering from lactose allergy. The important thing to understand is that your baby can have lactose intolerance as well as other food allergies.

This brings us to the subsequent point and that's to understand the difference between bigotry and allergy. Lactose allergy isn't the same as milk allergy. An allergy is a rather more intense kind of prejudice and only a tiny percentage of babies basically have lactose related allergies. An allergic reaction takes place when the baby's body over reacts by making antibodies to react against lactose or milk products. This then reveals itself as an allergic reaction and it's quite rare for it to happen. Lactose allergies are often break outs, hives, asthma and anaphylaxis. Only around one percent of babies suffer with lactose related allergies.

But returning to lactose intolerance, there are basically two differing types of intolerances. Speaking strictly lactose-reated intolerance is defined as bigotry toward the sugar found in the milk. But it's also possible for the baby to develop and prejudice towards the protein found in milk. Some babies will have prejudice towards one or the other. Even though the precise reason that explains why this happens is still not entirely accepted, the actual process is known. And this is because of a deficiency lactase in the babies digestive system. Lactase is utilized by the body to break down lactose.

The better news in all this is that lactose intolerance in babies has a tendency to reduce and finally go as the baby ages. If your baby is born with this problem then all products containing lactose whether it is animal or human based, should not be fed. As an alternative cow's milk based lactose free product should be given. But before taking this step it's far better to talk with the physician and give your baby a lactose related intolerance test. This will customarily involve a blood test, hydrogen breath test or stool astringency test.
