Dog Training: What Collar and Leash is Right for my Dog?

By Dirk Gruenberg

A collar and a leash are two of the most important things that you must have as a dog owner. The collar is often used to have a sense of identification and distinction between dogs.

Nowadays, collars are also used as a form of a fashion statement for dogs. Collars are usually used with a leash. The leash, on the other hand, is a very powerful and effective tool in communicating with your dog.

Life with the leash is quite easy: Just simply pull when you want to stop or slow down. And also use it when you want to speed up. Your dog will understand what is going on.

In selecting a collar, a dog owner must always seek the advice of their veterinarian because he can assess which type of collar might be suitable to your dog. This assessment comes from his broad knowledge of your dog's medical and breed background.

A simple leash and collar can be suitable for dogs with not many issues with walking. It is also recommended for dogs with no known obedience problems.

However, if your dog constantly causes trouble and does not behave at all, a slip collar might actually be a better option for you and your dog.

If you are still having troubles even with the slip collar, you can also try using the illusion collar. The illusion collar is highly recommended if you want your dog to pull you around.

The great thing about the illusion collar is that you can use it in many different ways, while still having control of your dog. If you attach it to the lower part of your dog's neck, you can control your dog's pulling behavior.

If you do not want your dog to pull as much, simply put the collar on the upper part of his neck. This way he will really feel the connection to you, and he is more likely to respond appropriately. Try it, if you like, it might be a great help.
