Quick and Super Affordable Decorating You Can Do

By Simon Alves

Sometimes it seems like the only rule to home decorating is "the more expensive, the better your taste." Forgetting about your budget is easy when you get carried away with the theme that you want to create. People who work with super tight budgets usually get stressed out because they are afraid that they won't be able to decorate their homes the way that they want. Thankfully there are plenty of ways to decorate that don't involve spending major dollars.

Here are a few hints to help you save money when you want to decorate your home.
Thrift stores are great. Shopping at thrift stores and other types of used stores or second hand stores can really help you not spend tons of money when you decorate your home. The trick to finding great stuff in thrift stores is learning to see the beauty that is in each item on the shelves. It is easy to make a thrift store purchase into a brand new decorative item for your home as long as you are willing to be creative. Even the loud patterned clothing can be taken apart so that the fabric can be used for other things. The nicest and barely used and easy to refinish things can usually be found in affluent neighborhood thrift stores and second hand shops.

Learn your way around the internet. The internet is full of independent artists, photographers and creators who are trying to sell their work. Etsy is a very popular website for artists who want to sell their work and for people who are trying to decorate their homes inexepensively. Flickr is a popular website for photographers who like to showcase their work (the site is free for browsing). You can also purchase decorative art through artist's personal websites. Thankfully you are no longer limited to finding home decorating items through sites like Amazon and Ebay.

Don't put a bunch of things on a shelf when just a few will do. This way the pieces you choose will be easier to spot

Don't put a bunch of things on a shelf when just a few will do. This way the pieces you choose will be easier to spot and you'll be able to truly appreciate them. If you fill a wall with photos and paintings, you won't know where to look when you want to just sit and relax. White space is necessary for the decorating scheme to be complete. All artists will tell you that "white space is good."

For most of us, our favorite decorative items are things we already have on hand. Just take some time and let yourself be creative. Empty walls can be just as, if not more, beautiful than a wall crammed full of art.

Expensive art is not automatically better than something that you can make with your own hands. Take your time and think about what you really want. Jumping in and going overboard is only good for emptying the bank account.
