How To Find The Best Baby Monitor

By Ali Garcia

Getting the right accessories for your baby did not used to be so difficult. There were only a limited number of possibilities when it came time to buy a crib, high chair or baby monitor. It's a very different world today, where you have hundreds of brands, models and styles for these and related items. You no doubt want to choose the highest quality items for your baby, but it can be difficult to know how to figure out which baby accessories are best. Having so many choices can make it confusing; how do you know you are picking the best products for your baby? The following tips should make it easier for you to make these important choices.

The price is going to be a major factor in your decision. But you should consider that the price is actually a small factor when it comes to your final decision, and should not be your only criteria. The best thing to do, is to look at how many features you actually get for the price, as the cheapest one may also not be the most valuable for your baby, likewise the most expensive system may not give you the most value for your money either. Also keep in mind that when you are choosing a system, you shouldn't be asking yourself "which one is the cheapest", because if you go with the cheapest system, you may find it malfunctioning or worse! The most important thing in the end, is to simply weight out what you are actually getting for the price you are getting it at, so that you get the most value from your investment.

You'll find most of the less expensive models work at a frequency of 49 MHZ. This particular frequency will contain the greatest amount of interference - must be why they're so cheap to buy. These monitors will also give you some surprises - incoming phone calls from cell phones, or even brief phone conversations from people around you, or baby monitors from other houses/apts close to you. More costly monitors which are of higher quality and different frequencies won't pose these issues. If you want to avoid these interference problems, the way to go is with monitors operating at 2.4 GHZ.

Since you cannot fully prevent external noises from occurring around you at times, a visual monitor at least warns or alerts you if anything is happening, so that you don't have worry about not being able to hear your baby if something happens because of other things going on around you. This is also a good feature if either parent is hearing impaired, because it allows you to know what is going on even though you cannot hear it.

Of course there is a lot to consider when purchasing a baby monitor for your family. But it all depends on how extensive you actually want your system to be and how much you want it to cost. Take your time when researching, that way you can really make an informed decision which can keep your family happy and your baby safe!
